Choosing the Right Freight Solution

How to Compare Offers from Logistics Companies

When arranging international freight, businesses often receive several offers from different logistics companies. At first glance, it may seem enough to compare the final price and choose the lowest rate. In practice, however, two offers for the same shipment may include different services, transit times and conditions.
To make a proper comparison, it is important to look beyond the price and understand exactly what is included in each offer.

Do Not Compare Only the Final Price

The first thing to check is what is included in the quoted price. One company may provide an all-in rate, while another may quote only the main freight cost and charge separately for pickup, terminal handling, documentation or final delivery.
Before comparing rates, check whether the offer includes:
  • pickup from the shipper;
  • terminal and warehouse handling;
  • export or transit customs procedures;
  • delivery to the final destination;
  • destination charges;
  • documentation services;
  • additional charges related to the specific type of cargo.
Only after these points are clarified can different offers be compared properly.

Compare the Route and Transit Time

The cost of transportation depends not only on the distance between the origin and destination. The route, number of transshipments, mode of transport and carrier also affect the final price.
For air freight, for example, it is important to compare ETD, ETA, TT and chargeable weight. For road freight, businesses should consider the expected transit time, route, border crossings and possible transshipments.
If one offer is cheaper but takes significantly longer, the two options are not necessarily equivalent. For a business, even a few additional days can affect stock availability, production schedules or commitments to customers.

Check Whether the Conditions Are Really Comparable

Even when the route is the same, freight costs can differ because of the cargo specifications. The calculation may be based on actual or volumetric weight, different pickup conditions, the type of packaging, number of packages, stackability and other parameters.
It is also important to check the validity of the quoted rate. International freight rates can change depending on capacity, seasonality, availability and market conditions.
For this reason, it is better to compare offers using the same basic parameters: the same route, cargo details, scope of services and comparable transit times.

Price Is Only One Factor

A good logistics offer should clearly show not only the transportation cost but also the main conditions of the shipment. The clearer the offer, the easier it is for a business to understand its actual costs and potential risks.
When comparing logistics solutions, consider:
  • total cost;
  • transit time;
  • route;
  • included and excluded services;
  • cargo handling conditions;
  • rate validity;
  • possible additional charges;
  • the logistics provider's experience with the specific route and type of cargo.
NOMADTRANZIT helps businesses compare transportation options based not only on the rate, but also on the route, transit time, cargo characteristics and scope of services. This makes it easier to choose a logistics solution that fits the actual requirements of the shipment rather than simply appearing cheaper at first glance.
